A Letter To My Past Self

Instead of writing a letter to my future self like most people do, I decided to write a letter to my past self about what I wished I did and what I am going to do in the present.

Dear Syd,

You are young and naive but that’s okay most people are. You will have your up’s and down’s but just know that’s how life works. Sometimes you’ll find yourself down and the dumps and others happy as can be. Cherish every healthy moment of your life because you never know what the next day brings. Accept people for theirselves and be open to new people. Don’t shut yourself off from the world when things go bad. Think with the glass half full, instead of the glass half empty. Know that love is never simple. You will kiss many frogs before you find your prince. Don’t get down on yourself when you see your imperfections. Be confident, but not over-confident. It’s okay to be insecure sometimes but don’t let that take over your life. In the future you will have a life altering experience. It will test your strength, outlook on life, patience and much more. Learn how to handle challenges on your own now rather than later. Always be willing to help others and give more than you receive. Treat other how you would want to be treated.  I forgot one more thing, some people will come back and mature be open to their apologies.

Your present self

  1. If only we could believe all that in the midst of our difficulties. I have a 13 year old daughter and when she’s having a hard time with something, it’s like the end of the world to her. With experience she will learn that it’s not, but she will have to figure that out on her own. My words of comfort are empty to an extent. And I’ve been there too. Being a girl is so hard when you’re young.
When she’s older she will realize, just like you did, that life goes on and we are stronger than we think. Beautiful letter
