Self Acceptance is probably one of the hardest things to do for anyone. No matter what age or stage of life you’re in, you’ll always have trouble with this concept. The media shows you a perception of what society wants you to be, and engraves it into your head as something you should want to. We see these beautiful models or fit people who look perfect but deep down they are struggling too.
People cope (or don’t) with self acceptance in different ways. Some people turn to food and pack on the pounds, some people starve themselves, some people cry..it’s different for everyone. When learning that you have to accept who you are and life you have, you need to first drop the unhealthy habits. Unhealthy habits will dig you further and further into not wanting to accept reality.
If you have something in your life that you want to change and can be changed do it. But before you make the change think long and hard about the consequences. For example, if you want to be a blonde go get you hair dyed. The consequences are dying your hair blonde is how expensive the upkeep on it is, the fact your damaging your hair by bleaching it, and you may not even like the color. Same goes for eating habits, or social habits, or physical habits. You have to make sure the benefits outweigh the consequences. When I got sick and still to this day I have trouble accepting that this is who I am, and what I will struggle with. Sure, I’m negative about it sometimes but I learned its better to be positive. I’m going to have some god awful days but I just have to mentally prepare myself that it’s okay to be okay, my life will turn out fine and this will all be a distant memory. These types of skills take long time and work to achieve, but if you’re motivated you’ll get a hang of it. I’m still not that great on these types of skills but I have noticed a big change. Believe that every struggle is just a piece to your story or your journey. Someone has a plan for you, promise.
